I’m Jeff Althouse, Oakshire Brewing’s Founder, and I’m stoked you’re reading this short piece of writing. We’ve been in business since 2006, brewing beer and serving our community, and we’re proud to be privately owned by our friends and family. In 12 years our organization has grown professionally and we’ve become a fixture in the Eugene community.
I am occasionally introduced as the ‘owner of Oakshire’, and while technically true that I am an owner of this wonderful company, it is truly ours, not mine. Oakshire Brewing has become its own being in all the very best ways, and it belongs to the people who make and sell our beer, who call our Public House home, and who share Oakshire beer with their own family and friends. If you’re reading this, it’s pretty likely that you’re a real part of Oakshire because you support and promote all our best attributes: a true love of beer and the deliciously creative craft of producing both traditional styles and super-innovative new beers; a desire for genuine and positive human connection and camaraderie, often with beer in hand; and also an ownership and sense of place.
The name Oakshire was created to embody the strength of an oak and the bond between people and place that is a ‘shire’. The center of Oakshire, our place, is our Pub. I spend a fair amount of time in our Pub conversing and enjoying the good vibes and, of course, drinking some of the most delicious and fresh beer I’ve had the pleasure to taste. A few things have become very clear during my time in our Pub: this company is not mine, it’s ours, which is why it feels to me like a gift. Thank you for the gift of Oakshire.
