Oakshire Brewing will reopen Oakshire Commons in downtown Springfield on Friday, September 4 at 12 pm, following a brief pause in operations and a strong response of support and feedback from the Springfield community.
Oakshire Commons, located at 416 Main Street, paused operations following service on August 30 to give the brewery time to reconsider how the space could operate successfully for the long term. While Oakshire expected that process to take more time, the team was able to develop a focused near-term plan faster than anticipated.
“We knew there were things we needed to change about how the Commons operated, but the response we received from Springfield was incredibly encouraging,” said Oakshire founder and CEO Jeff Althouse. “People showed up for our team, reached out to us and shared thoughtful ideas about what they want this space to be. It reminded us how much people value having a welcoming place to gather downtown, and we’re excited to keep building that alongside the community.”
When Oakshire announced the pause, the brewery intentionally stopped short of calling it a permanent closure, leaving time to evaluate the existing operating model and determine a more sustainable path forward.
The first change guests will notice is a more focused schedule designed around the times when people are most likely to visit.
Oakshire Commons’ new hours will be:
Monday–Thursday: 4 – 9 pm
Friday–Saturday: 12 – 10 pm
Sunday: 12 – 9 pm
When doors reopen Friday, guests can expect the things that have defined Oakshire Commons since it opened in April 2025: Oakshire beer, Detroit-style pizza and a comfortable, family-friendly place to gather in the heart of downtown Springfield.
Other changes will come thoughtfully over time.
Community feedback has included strong interest in morning coffee service, additional food options and opportunities to gather at the Commons to watch sports. Oakshire is actively exploring each of those ideas.
Plans are underway for a future coffee program, with an espresso machine already in place at the Commons. Oakshire is also working toward adding televisions and incorporating sports—from Oregon football and other college games to professional sports and major events—as another way to bring people together.
The brewery is also evaluating the Commons food menu. Detroit-style pizza will remain central to the concept, while the team considers additional variety, including faster and lighter options.
“We don’t need to have every part of the future Commons figured out before we open the doors again,” Althouse said. “We know what we already do well, and we know there are opportunities to make the space even better. We’d rather reopen, welcome people back and continue building the next version of the Commons thoughtfully with our community.”
