The Brewery

  • The latest "expansion project" at Oakshire

    On Tuesday a long truck from Alberta Canada rolled up to the brewery. On his trailer sat our new "little" baby. A 48,000 lb capacity silo that will house our 2-row malted barley. This recent acquisition is a huge step in growing our little brewery here in Eugene. Not only does it relieve a bit of the manual labor needed in our brewhouse, but it also allows us to buy bulk malt at a significant savings. I've got to tell you, as much as I (Matt) am happy about the latter benefit, I'm REALLY happy about the former.

    CDA? You have some 'splainin' to do, Lucy!

    Well, we've been having a great time hanging out with all of you dear Oakshire fans as we sample out our new Spring Seasonal, O'Dark:30. Whether it was at the Bier Stein, Beer Nuts, The Eastburn, Belmont Station, or one of the many tastings Sam and Erik are doing this week, we've enjoyed chatting with you about this new beer we ventured into. The overwhelming response has been positive and we're glad you are enjoying it.

    Hey Portland, O'Dark:30 is on it's way!!

    As I type this, Jeff jumped in the truck with bottles and kegs of our new Spring Seasonal O'Dark:30. We've made a Cascadian Dark ale and it will be on PDX shelves within days. We've also planned two release events to let you try out this new beer. The first is Friday, March 12th, 5PM start at The Eastburn. All proceeds from your purchase benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Come hang out with Jeff and Matt at the Eastburn.

    Zwickelmania and KLCC fest wrap up.

    Well, it's nearly a week past and I'm just catching my breath from last weekend. Whew! Thanks to everyone for coming out and trying our beer at the KLCC fest Friday and Saturday and for all those who toured Eugene and Springfield breweries, we appreciate you coming out to see us!     The Federal Government says "YES" to Cascadian Dark Ales! (our label anyway)

    So we're calling it A Cascadian Dark Ale. Yep, not scared. New nomenclature for a beer that's has been made for a while. Customer confusion? Maybe for a little while. But you'll all eventually come over to the Dark Side, right? And because I couldn't upload a bigger graphic without covering the whole screen, I'll tell you what the verbage is under the graphic: "Dawn has not arrived, But we are awake-making beer.

    Come and See us in January!

    Who says post Holidays are a slow time of year? Oakshire brewing plans to pound the pavement and come out and see you and share a beer with you. As always, you can click on "Oakshire events" to the right for a calendar of what we are up to. And as always, you can come to use every Saturday from 12-4 for tours and tastings. Plus, we are visited by our friends at Devour who have tasty sandwiches and soup made with Oakshire beer. Stop by for lunch and a tour this Saturday!

    Looking Backward....Looking Forward.

    Well, I'm a little tardy on my year end reflections like so many people seem to do as the calender rolls from December to January. I think I'll look back with a list of the top 5 amazing things that happened in 2009 at Oakshire Brewing. And then we'll look ahead to some exciting things to look forward to in 2010. 5. The company has grown from 4 employees to 8, including me as I hauled my family from Illinois to Oregon in March. 4. We had 5 tanks in the cellar (fermentation and packaging) and now we have 11! 3.

    Happy New Year from All of us at Oakshire Brewing. Thanks for all you've done this year to make it a great and successful year at Oakshire. I'll post some year end stats later, but just know that Oakshire is twice as big as it was last year at this time and we couldn't have done it without all the support of our fans and all the Oregon Craft Beer drinkers. Thank you! DOCK SALES THIS WEEK: We will be open regular dock sale hours Thursday until 6. Stop by and get that keg filled for the party. And bottles of Stout are only on sale until then, so stock up now.

    Good evening Oakshire fans, Just wanted to send out a quick post and wish everyone an early Merry Christmas and give everyone a heads up on Dock Sale hours and Tours and Tastings this weekend! We will be open today, Thursday 12/24, for Dock Sales during our regular hours from 3-6PM. We will be closed tomorrow in observance of the Christmas holiday. However, on Saturday we will be open for Tours, Tastings, Dock Sales, and delicious grub from our mobile vendors friends at Devour.

    Happy Thanksgiving to all! I hope you had a very restful holiday and aren't letting the hustle and bustle of Christmas and all it's commercialism get you down. I had a little downtime as I hosted my parents for their first ever trip to the state of Oregon. We got a few house projects done, took a tour of the coast and most importantly rested and recharged. I highly recommend that last part! Thanks for the help Dad! As with the rest of the world, there is A LOT going on this week.
