Axe of Perun Baltic Porter

In Slavic Mythology, Perun is highest god of the pantheon and the god of thunder and lightning. Like Thor, he brandished a weapon against evil-doers, yet his choice was the battle axe. He rides through the sky on a chariot pulled by a goat buck. We think you’ll hear thunder and lightning when you try our latest Single Batch Beer, Axe of Perun Baltic Porter.

Baltic Porters are strong porters fermented with a lager yeast. Originally shipped by the British to the Eastern European Baltic countries, they cranked up the alcohol for the long voyage. Eventually, brewers in the region surrounding the Baltic Sea took to making these strong dark beers themselves, but took some influences from their neighbors in Germany and used lager techniques. Aging for months, they have a very smooth lagered character with distinctive caramelized sugars, licorice and chocolate-like character of roasted malts and dark sugars. Roasted dark malts do not contribute bitterness, or astringent roast character. A hint of smokiness from malt is often evident.

Axe of Perun is strong dark lager with hints of chocolate and licorice in the aroma. It has a sweet middle with a touch of roast and chocolate flavors that keep it in balance. This Baltic Porter ends with a slow drawn out finish reminiscent of mocha and brown sugar. 7.4% abv Cheers! Matt
