Did you make it to the 2011 KLCC brewfest? For nearly two decades the Eugene area brewers have been collaborating on a special beer for the annual KLCC brewfest. This year, we all made a very sessionable pale ale made with a single malt, Glen Eagle Marris Otter. Each beer also just had a single hop, which was chosen by the brewer. At Oakshire we loaded up on Mt Hood Hops. Each beer was fermented by the breweries’ house yeast and the goal was to make a beer that came in under 5%abv.
The Participating breweries were: Oakshire, Ninkasi, Track Town/Rogue, High Street, Steel Head, Brewers Union Local 180, Block 15, Maui Brewing and Valley Vintner. All the beers were debuted at the KLCC fest on Feb. 11th and 12th.
This Pale Ale starts out with a pungent floral note from a liberal dosing of dry hops. There is a bracing bitterness at the begining but a wave of juicy malt flavor washes it out. It ends with an aromatic and light on the finish. It comes in at a reasonable 4% reminding you that another glass is a great idea. Cheers!
