Learn to Homebrew with Oakshire Brewing and the Cascade Brewers Society

Learn to Homebrew Day was established by the American Homebrewers Association (AHA) in 1999 to enable people interested in beer and homebrewing to learn how to brew. Learn to Homebrew Day occurs annually on the first Saturday in November, when homebrewers around the world are encouraged to learn how to brew or teach someone how to brew. This year, on Saturday Nov. 6 from 9 AM until 5 PM, members of the Cascade Brewers Society will be demonstrating homebrewing techniques and equipment at Oakshire Brewing, 1055 Madera St. in Eugene. Oakshire beers and Cornucopia sandwiches will be available for purchase and there will be live music.

Jeff Althouse, founder of Oakshire Brewing, will be on hand to christen the new homebrew system and demonstrate an extract batch of beer. The following CBS members will be making beer and demonstrating the craft:

Denny Conn – Rye IPA
Brandt Weaver – Rye Porter
Tom Fries – Juleol (a Norwegian Christmas bock)
Jeremiah Marsden and John Kelly – Munich Rye IPA
Dan and Shawn Potts (husband and wife team) – Black Butte porter clone

Learn to Homebrew Day is NOT a hands-on experience for our patrons, but you will be able to see it all in action AND you’ll certainly be able to pick the brains of the masters throughout the day. Come for a bit, stay for a while. You’re welcome all day.
